Dear Readers,

Been four years since I graduated from Kobe University Japan. I was planning to share my scholarship experience, but I think I lost track of time along the way. So here it is

If I could make the timeline, I graduated from Gadjah Mada University in 2014, later I finished the internship program in 2015. I was accepted as a Monbukagakusho awardee for PhD program at Kobe University Japan, in the middle of my internship program. Frankly, the life after I graduated from med school is one of the most unpleasant experience in my life. Us doctor who graduated in 2014 felt disappointed with the system in which AIPKI and IDI had some disagreement about the exam for med students. Long story short they made us jobless for 8 months. Even though at that moment I felt angry, Looking back, it was an important time in my life.

Not too long After I graduated, I was working in the Department of Anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine UGM as an intern staff to teach the med student about anatomy, most of the time. I spent most of my time teaching anatomy before I entered the internship program. Aside from that, I also was a research assistant in the same department. The opportunity came in when I was unsure about the future due to internship was delayed. I was looking for an opportunity to continue my study abroad.

My senior (Arfi-San) that I worked on his research as an assistant, offered me to continue studying under his previous professor in Japan. The research in which Arfi-San working on was really interesting. it was a research field that I never knew existed before. Later He introduced me to his professor at Kobe University by email, and later we had some kind of teleconference. Not long after that I applied for the Monbukagakusho U to U scholarship in 2014 under the professor guidance, and got accepted. I'm not sure how many the competitors, but only 4 of Us accepted as awardee in Kobe Uni. However, if you are not accepted, you can still continue the enrollment and apply for private scholarship or apply MEXT G to G program.

If I could give some advice to dear readers who are willing to apply Monbukagakusho scholarship, especially the U to U program:

1. Make connections early since in med school, being active not only in student organizations but also as a lecturer assistant or research assistant.

2. Have an inspirational teacher during your study.

3. Make some targets

4. Try all the opportunities, or make an opportunity

5. Failure is proof that you are a brave person. Embrace it. So don't be afraid to fail.

6. Last, always be prepared,

Don’t forget that Luck is when opportunity meets preparation.
